Saraka E. Satcher is a principal with the Satcher Group. In this capacity, he has worked on several major on-going development projects in the Atlanta area – including the redevelopment of Turner Field and Herndon Square, a major mixed-used project close to downtown.

From 2009 to 2011, Satcher served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs at the United States Department of Commerce. In that capacity, he managed the legislative and intergovernmental operations of the Office of the Secretary and twelve Commerce bureaus – including the International Trade Administration and the Economic Development Administration – and served as a primary advisor to the Secretary of Commerce on legislative strategy and coordination with state and local governments. Before his presidential appointment, Satcher worked in the United States Congress for eight years – ending his time there as the first Chief of Staff in the office of U.S. Congressman Hank Johnson of Georgia. In that role, he managed all administrative and legislative operations. Prior to that, Satcher served as Legislative Director in the office of U.S. Congressman Harold Ford, Jr of Tennessee, and managed congressional affairs for the National Endowment for Democracy – an international democracy promotion organization. He began his congressional career as a policy advisor in the office of U.S. Congressman John Spratt of South Carolina and served as a policy advisor to U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow of Michigan.

A graduate of the Leadership Atlanta Class of 2014, Satcher received his Juris Doctorate from Emory University School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Morehouse College.He currently serves on the boards of the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute, the Georgia District Export Council, Voorhees College, and on the advisory board of Skyland Trail – a nationally recognized nonprofit mental health treatment organization based in Atlanta.
